Hey everybody, it’s Dr. Andrew here with Optimal Chiropractic. Today I wanted to go over something we see very commonly in the office as well too is plantar fasciitis. I have a lot of patients that come in and just say Oh yeah, they told me this a while back I got plantar fasciitis. This is a symptom where there’s pain in the foot or the back of the heel and then it’s especially really bad in the mornings.

They say the symptom that most people feel is like when you get up in the morning, You actually feel like and you take that first step, you feel like you’re actually walking on like broken glass. So it’s not a great feeling. So I wanted to go over what’s going on and then how chiropractic can help with that situation too.

Now, I do have a little bit of a diagram here too. So I’ll, I’m going to use my hand to explain. Let’s pretend like I’m a foot here, but the big thing I wanted everyone to see is that the Achilles tendon runs around down under your heel, but then it turns into that plantar fascia and then that’s what’s under the foot along the arch of the foot.

So most people, when they feel that plantar fasciitis, it’s usually at the bottom of the foot or in the heel. So what’s usually going on here is a big culprit is most people. Say this is your foot and this is your heel right here. When people sleep, they like to point their toes. So what happens is that tendon that’s in the plantar fascia on the bottom of the foot, then becomes shortened into that Achilles tendon.

So when you sleep like that, with the feet pointed for eight hours a night, That tendons becomes starts to become very shortened. And then when you want to go step and put all that weight on from your body to step on it, you spread that thing out and push on it. And then just so much tension is pulling through in here.

What’s that causes from the, that is caused from the sleeping like that then too. But there’s also these tarsal bones in here that really just get compressed. And just really close in tight and they just get really pressurized. They feel really tight. So that’s what’s happening as people start to step on that.

And then just, it feels very uncomfortable. One thing I want to always encourage too, if you’ve ever been told that plantar fasciitis is one that can really stretch. So any, if you stretch your calf muscle, any calf muscle stretch, it’s actually going to stretch this whole thing and you’ll feel it actually help in the plantar fascia.

So that’s one easy thing you can do right off the bat, but for chiropractic wise. We can always work that foot so we can adjust these tarsal bones right here. That’s right at the base It’s right around the ankle. So we’ll do the actual ankle joint itself, too But then those tarsal bones too now as we start to release that pressure in there that plantar fascia Can start to release as well too because we’re starting to flatten that foot out and spread open that fascia a little bit more too but then in combination between doing the adjustments in that foot and that ankle and then Getting the tool, the toes to sleep, not pointed forward and having them elevated like this they even make like braces for that.

You can even find them on Amazon. I’m sure. But that’ll help keep the foot there. That really helps a lot of people, a lot too. So by in combination of doing all this, we can get really a great result. I, we see this all the time. Most of the time, it’s not like a. Common when that patients come in for to see us it’s usually an after effect that we’re working on something else and Oh yeah, I was told this.

So it’s just one of those things that we see it often and then we try to help it on top of where we’re helping with Tim. But if this is the main thing bothering you, we are happy to help and get after this as well too. So anyway, dealing with any of these symptoms, send them our way.

We’d be happy to help. Appreciate you listening and just reach out to us if you have any more questions on this. Thanks.
