Hi guys. It’s Dr. Barney here
and today I wanted to make a short video highlighting a question that we get asked almost every single day, if not multiple times a day. It’s a burning question, no pun intended. And whether that’s to use heat or ice. In the case of something happening and in our office, we’re always gonna recommend ice.
Ice has been shown according to research and. It’s a hotly debated issue once again, no pun intended, but the research might change and change here in the next few years and say that heat’s more beneficial as far as what we’ve seen. Ice is gonna be the better modality to use, especially if it’s an acute injury.
Acute typically is gonna mean. Infl inflammation, which is gonna be hot. So sometimes there’s been studies showing that heat can almost make that inflammation worse, which is why we’re gonna recommend ice, why we have ice if patients need it. Ice is gonna be the number one modality we recommend, just based on the results that we’ve seen with patients, the results that we get with ourselves.
So we’re always gonna recommend ice. Patients will always ask me, can I still use heat? In addition to ice, and I say, yeah, that’s fine. I would typically use and start with heat cycle with heat, and then always end with ice at the end just to help combat that inflammation. Like I said, maybe studies will change, but for now ice is going to be the number one modality that we recommend if you’re having an acute flare up.
If you’re having an acute injury, it’s gonna be what we recommend here at Optimal Chiropractic. Thanks. Have a great day.
